Our sustainability commitment

Sustainable quality
At CHILLAFISH, we are proud to be doing everything we can to produce sustainable quality products. Achieving sustainability goals is not only about eco materials. It is foremost achieved by designing and manufacturing a product in a quality that lasts a lifetime. A product manufactured with eco materials but with too low quality standards is far less sustainable because it has been produced, shipped, packaged and disposed of too quickly, causing overconsumption (buying a similar product multiple times) on top of all the resources needed to manufacture it for a very short lifespan. Therefore we believe in "durable sustainability" as sustainability starts with durability and quality.

New research from Comeos (Belgian retail association) showed that on sites such as Temu and Shein, up to 30% of products ordered were broken upon arrival.  Another 30% broke within 1 month of usage.  This is by far the biggest problem in fighting for a more sustainable economy: the over consumption of low-quality goods that have a large production and transportation footprint, but no lifetime in usage (source in Dutch here).

If it's broken, fix it, don't dispose it.
As more and more manufacturers start embracing the "repair" culture to avoid early disposal and excess waste, we are proud to say that from the start we have had all possible spare parts for our products in stock.  We encourage our users to replace worn or broken parts and we send out replacement parts every day, worldwide.  Go to Chillafish Talk or check out or web shop for replacement parts.  We update these regularly, but if you don't find it, just as our customer service team at Chillafish Talk.

No single use plastics inside our packaging
As from 2022, we started replacing all our single use plastic packaging materials by more recyclable or recycled materials such as carton.  Now, in every CHILLAFISH packaging, you will not find any single-use plastic protection anymore.  Still today, way too many products are packed in small portions, with single use plastic bags around them or in plastic containers.  Yes, those can be recycled, but again, then need to be shipped to the recycling plant, recycling has a footprint, then shipped to a new factory and remade into a new product.  In addition to that, many single use plastics do not end up in the recycling stream, but in landfills, rivers and seas.  Simply not using them is way better to avoid carbon footprint and excess waste.

Reduce battery usage – our GLOW products
So many toys today have built-in batteries, often just to generate some nice lights, just for fun.   In all honesty, we are not big fans of that as this again is so not sustainable.  Instead, we are inventing new ways of using motion to generate the electricity needed for fun lights.  Be it a simple scooter, a balance bike or even a pogo stick that generates light.  You make the lights glow by moving… without batteries !

Efficient logistics
At CHILLAFISH, we offer any logistic model to our customers: we ship containers directly to our customers, we offer drop-shipping directly 1-piece parcels to consumers.  We have stock locations in US, Europe and Asia.  But our push towards our customers is in choosing for the most efficient delivery method, as directly as possible.  Shipping products around the world, to then ship them back in smaller quantities to the other side of the world does not make any sense, commercially and ecologically.  The less steps it takes for a product to move from our factory into the hands of consumers, the better.  That is also why we offer a lot of drop shipping solutions where we can.  This way our products are not touching any intermediary warehouses as an additional step if there is no need for that.

Energy efficiency
We do believe in human impact on climate change and we believe that many small differences can have a big effect.  We are working actively with our factories to encourage them to become energy efficient.  Our factories are actively increasing their solar power installations on their buildings.  This way they have shifted already 15% of their energy needs towards clean solar energy.  And the goal is to increase this green energy percentage to 50% and more by 2026.

Waste water management and exhaust management
In addition to energy, we are working with factories that have a responsible approach to waste water and exhaust and build efficient waste water management systems, so that 100% of the exhaust and waste water are treated according to the highest standards.
